Lewis Hall speaks out on lack of game time as Chelsea loanee triggers £28m move

Speaking to The Chronicle, Lewis Hall has reflected on his lack of playing time under Eddie Howe at Newcastle this season despite the amount they were willing to pay for him.

Signed on an initial loan deal from Chelsea last summer, Hall will become a permanent Newcastle player for £28m after it became impossible for the club  to finish lower than 14th, triggering the clause in the deal.

The 19-year-old has started just three games in the Premier League this season, despite numerous calls from supporters for him to be given a chance during a tough spell for Dan Burn at left-back.

Howe stuck to his guns, though recent injuries have forced his hand and Hall has enjoyed a few starts against Everton and Fulham after playing a key role in our stunning comeback win over West Ham last month.

On his playing time, Hall said: “It was a mixture of everything. It was obviously frustrating not playing. It is not like I have not been doing anything, I have been working really hard behind the scenes. All the coaches and players have helped me so much and made me feel part of it.

“I feel like I have improved certain aspects of my game quite a lot. I am hoping now towards the end of the season I can continue to show my abilities and what I have improved on, to help the team.”

Howe has always defended his lack of minutes, played down any concerns and insisted the teenager has a huge role to play in our future, describing him as a long-term investment that has been working hard on his game behind the scenes.

With some promising displays of late and a pre-season under his belt, 2024/25 could be a big season for him.
