Cameron Carter-Vickers’ long wait to return to action is finally over.
The American defender is set to feature for Celtic this weekend during its Scottish Premiership clash with Ross Country. Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers confirmed to media on Thursday that Carter-Vickers will play a role for the first time since Boxing Day.
“It is great to see Cameron back again so he will be involved,” Rodgers said in an interview, transcribed by the Glasgow Times.
Carter-Vickers has missed each of Celtic’s last three matches in all competitions due to a hamstring injury. However, it hasn’t kept the U.S. men’s national team defender from appearing in the news.
West Ham United, Brentford, and Nottingham Forest have all targeted Carter-Vickers as a potential acquisition this year, while Celtic has opened talks with the 26-year-old over a new contract, SBI reported earlier this month. His current deal is set to run until June 2026, but with suitors chasing him, Celtic is poised to sign Carter-Vickers to an improved contract.
Carter-Vickers has lifted five trophies in his two-and-a-half seasons with Celtic, including a domestic treble last season. He has made 101 combined appearances for Celtic, scoring five goals, adding two assists, and earning two SPFL Best XL honors (2022, 2023).
Celtic sits top of the SPFL table with 54 points earned, five points clear of rivals Rangers.
