Barcelona prioritising three players for the summer including Portuguese duo

In an attempt to balance ambition and fiscal responsibility, Barcelona have been utilizing stopgap solutions during the recent transfer windows.

This past summer saw the Catalan giants acquire free agents, loanees, and players available for cheap, with financial constraints compelling the club to chart a more pragmatic course.

However, next summer, Barcelona aims to broaden its scope.

As per MARCA, the club plans to make the signings of Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo permanent, along with signing a pivot for the midfield department.

A pivot on the agenda

After bidding farewell to Sergio Busquets last season, Barcelona sought to fill his huge void with a major signing.

Even so, due to their compromising financial state, they had to make do with a temporary remedy by signing an aging Oriol Romeu for merely €3.4 million.

Understandably, Barça are focusing on a defensive midfielder who can alleviate Busquets’ absence in the long term, and thus the signing of a pivot is on their agenda for next summer’s transfer window.

Retaining the Joaos for good

The report further highlights that the Blaugranes are looking forward to retaining both Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo.

Despite fluctuations in their form, the Portuguese duo have contributed to some big wins since arriving, and Barcelona yearns to keep their services permanently.

Barcelona would have to negotiate a deal with Manchester City for Joao Cancelo, while striking a deal with Atletico Madrid for Felix may prove to be a bit more tricky, considering their desire to recover the sum they paid to Benfica initially for the player.

However, a second loan for Felix is also in the offing, with prior reports stating the Rojiblancos would be open to loaning him again next summer.

Time will tell how Barcelona’s roadmap for next season develops, but these appear to be some of their objectives for next year’s summer transfer window.
