The summer of 2024 for Barcelona has largely revolved around the future of Nico Williams.
Having identified the Spanish winger as their top priority, especially after the Euros, Barcelona have remained in close contact with the player and his entourage over a transfer.
Despite initially providing positive signs, Nico now appears closer to staying in the Basque country for a plethora of reasons.
Earlier this week, the Barcelona target returned to training with his former club and even sent a message to fans across the globe that he was looking forward to the season ahead.
Needless to say, his message all but confirmed that he would stay in the Basque country.

Now, AS reveals that Athletic Club vice president Jon Ruigomez virtually confirmed the development in his recent interview and admitted that Nico will play for the Basque outfit this season.
“If things are done well and there is a project, there is tranquility,” he said.
Elaborating on his team’s season ahead that includes UEFA Europa League football, he said,
“Athletic is a reason for enthusiasm, I think this is something usual and does not change from one day to the next. People are looking forward to an exciting year.”
Finally, the club administrator spoke on how Athletic Club handled the winger’s situation and whether the player’s decision was final.
“It is not a matter of knowing or not knowing, it is a matter of staying calm, of having confidence in the work that is being done, in that there is a project, in which there is a lot of enthusiasm and with these wickers what has to happen happens.”
