Toon chiefs set for talks with two Newcastle stars as ‘key priority’ goes public

Newcastle United will step up their attempts to tie Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon down to new deals over the coming months.

According to the Northern Echo, the club have made it a ‘key priority’ to tie both players down to new improved contracts after superb 2023/24 seasons and Premier League interest over the summer, with CEO Darren Eales and sporting director Paul Mitchell eager to step up talks after initial discussions were held.

Chelsea enquired about Isak’s availability and Arsenal are thought to be big admirers of the Swede, while Liverpool, Arsenal and Man City have all been credited with an interest in Gordon.

Gordon’s deal is due to expire in the summer of 2026, meaning Newcastle will soon enter potentially dangerous territory over the next six months if a new improved contract isn’t agreed to reflect his impressive rise to first-team star and full England international.

Isak’s contract still has just shy of four years left to run, with him signing until 2028 following his £63m move from Real Sociedad. However, there’s a feeling his salary must be increased to fend off inevitable offers in the next few transfer windows, with Premier League rivals almost certain to offer considerably more than he currently earns on Tyneside.

Considering the Swede is not considered one of the top strikers in world football and Gordon is pushing to become a regular in the England XI after establishing himself in the Premier League, this feels like a natural point to reward both and boost our hopes of keeping them at the club for years to come.
