5 changes on the cards at Newcastle? – Why Eddie Howe could mix it up against Fulham

Newcastle United have made a brilliant start to the season – our best since 1995/96 – and taken 10 points from a possible 12, but we’re yet to reach anything like top gear and have plenty of options available after fielding such a strong bench at Wolves last weekend.

It’s unlike Eddie Howe to make wholesale changes after a win, yet I wouldn’t be surprised in the slightest if we see at least a couple when we travel to Fulham on Saturday.

The first could be at right-back. Mark Douglas at the i hints that Kieran Trippier could return to the side this weekend and, while that may seem slightly harsh on Tino Livramento, the 34-year-old has come on to help us rescue results in our last two Premier League away days at Bournemouth and Wolves, bringing an air of calm and quality to the side.

Moving to the other flank, Howe could keep faith in Lewis Hall, but he is being targeted for his defensive frailties and would be up against Adama Traore. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if Lloyd Kelly came in for this one.

Next up comes Joe Willock on the other side of our midfield three. Joelinton was hooked at half-time at Molineux – partly because he was on a booking – but Willock took his chance and created five chances; a tally only one Premier League player bettered all weekend despite him being on the pitch for 45 minutes and without a recognised striker to feed. Joelinton’s form has been strangely hit and miss so far this season and his best two displays have come at St James’ Park, so I think we could see Willock start this one.

Last but not least, Harvey Barnes is the no-brainer this weekend. After his stunning goal that…
