Ahead of Rayo Vallecano’s La Liga face-off against Barcelona, club president Raúl Martín Presa was interviewed by a Madrid-based journalist on Partidazo COPE.
Winless at the venue in their last three trips, the Catalans have a point to prove against Inigo Perez’s side. Currently, on a run of two straight wins, they will look to extend their streak under Hansi Flick.
During the interaction with Cope, the Madrid-based journalist attempted to provoke Presa into criticizing Barcelona president Joan Laporta’s management of the club’s financial situation.
“You have to explain Laporta how to manage things. Not this injured players and unregistering them, levers stuff,” the journalist said, hoping to elicit a controversial statement.
The Rayo Vallecano president, however, stood firmly in support of Laporta and explained why the Barcelona administrator’s choices to this point were not flawed.

“Laporta? Taking over a team, with financial problems, as their board has done is a great achievement. They were at the edge of death and won the league, in this period.”
Elaborating on the positive impact Laporta has had on the club in his current tenure, Presa added,
“Last season they competed in the UCL and couldn’t go further because the suspension (Araujo). He recovered the club financially, doing an important project like Espai Barça.”
Finally, he admitted that he deeply respected the Barcelona president, dealing a significant blow to the Madrid-based journalist.
“He will put Barcelona in another dimension in the next few years. He deserves all my respect.”
Defeated by the reply, the journalist attempted to play his last card – downplaying the Rayo Vallecano administrator’s statements as situational commentary.
“Well, you’re saying it because you will have lunch with Laporta tomorrow,” he said.
Presa, however, stood his ground firmly and once again…
