Barcelona’s argument to register new signing contrasts with Christensen’s position – he is not happy

Barcelona’s latest signing Dani Olmo sat out the team’s opening games in La Liga earlier this month after the administration failed to register him for the competition due to financial fairplay regulations.

Joan Laporta and co., who were confident that the team had sufficient economic leeway to incorporate the Spaniard, were sent into panic mode after realizing that they were far off from that objective.

In a matter of days, they engineered the sales of Ilkay Gundogan, Vitor Roque, and Mikayil Faye – but all three operations together did not suffice.

Olmo is registered, but at a significant cost

Barcelona can hope to count on Olmo for tonight’s clash against Rayo Vallecano after La Liga provisionally accepted his registration.

The operation, however, is not as clean as it appears to the naked eye.

Having failed to register Olmo the traditional way, Barcelona have utilised Andreas Christensen’s injury as a means to incorporate the new signing, as revealed by Cadena SER.

In order to get La Liga’s green light, the Catalans submitted a medical report on the Danish defender’s injury revealing that he could be out for four months.

The player’s entourage, however, insists that Christensen’s injury is not as serious as Barcelona are portraying and that he will be back to complete fitness in between one to two months.

Notably, however, the duration of his layoff, in this case, was confirmed by a team of doctors from La Liga’s medical commission – all of whom are traumatologists specialised in sports medicine.

The centre-back is unsurprisingly not happy with the development as there is the risk of not playing until the end of the year even if he is back from injury in two months as claimed by his camp.

But Barcelona have assured Christensen that the FFP situation will be resolved by then and he can be registered in La Liga if he returns before four months.
