The Hansi Flick era in La Liga started with a very active Barcelona, and with the return of Alejandro Balde.
The Spaniard looked very fit with 3 key passes and 53 touches during the match. However, the youngster’s joy was short-lived.
Balde could not enjoy his long-awaited and much-needed comeback after leaving the game against Valencia injured in the opening minutes of the second half.
The extent of the injury is not yet known, and tests are scheduled for after the game.
However, everything indicates that the left-back suffers from some discomfort in his hamstring.
This was the player’s first official match after his injury in the Copa del Rey quarter-final against Athletic Club in the 2023/24 season, on 24 January.
At that time the Spaniard suffered a disinsertion in the biceps femoris tendon of his right leg and had to undergo surgery. This left him out of the entire 2023/24 season.
Barcelona hope it is nothing serious, and if it is the case, the Catalan club have a couple of days before the transfer window closes to tie down the signing of a new full-back – with João Cancelo being the top option.
If despite a long-term injury no full-back is signed, Gerard Martin, Alex Valle, and Hector Fort would be interesting options for Hansi Flick.
