Barcelona youngster absent from training today due to a virus – report

Earlier today, reports emerged claiming that Mika Faye was absent from training with FC Barcelona first team ahead of tomorrow’s La Liga clash against Valencia as he was nearing an exit.

Faye, 20, has been at Barcelona for a year now and impressed with his performances with the reserve team last season.

A first-team promotion was expected this summer but the player did not impress Hansi Flick in the pre-season and as such is expected to move on with no shortage of offers.

Training absence not related to transfer

However, while Faye is expected to leave Barcelona, his absence from training today has nothing to do with an impending exit.

Instead, the Senegalese international is not in training with the rest of the team a day before the game against Valencia because he has contracted a virus, according to Jordi Cardero.

Given that he is down with a virus and is not training a day before the game, Faye is unlikely to be called up to the squad list for tomorrow’s trip to Mestalla to face Valencia.

Even if he was fit and available, chances were higher that he would not be in the squad given that his future at the club is far from certain.

Rennes and Besiktas are interested in the defender and have sent in offers already while there may be more suitors for Faye.

It is likely that the Catalans will push to insert a sell-on clause or a buyback option for the defender to retain some degree of control over his future.
