While transfers at the first-team level are proving to be a challenge for FC Barcelona, they are ensuring that the future is secure by continuing to strengthen the youth and reserve ranks.
To that end, the Blaugrana have announced today that they have completed the signing of 18-year-old Spanish playmaker Marcos Parriego from Rayo Vallecano.
“Agreement for the incorporation of the player Marcos Parriego into the Juvenil A of Barça from Rayo Vallecano,” the statement from the club read.
As mentioned in the statement, the teenager has been signed to strengthen the Juvenil A (Under-19) setup at Barcelona, with the hope that he can progress further and grow into a first-team player.
Barcelona beat Real Madrid, Man City to Parriego’s signing
Following the official confirmation of his arrival, SPORT reports that Barcelona defeated arch-rivals Real Madrid as well as Premier League champions Manchester City in the race to sign Parriego from Rayo Vallecano.
The 18-year-old is a playmaker with a strong left foot, great vision and ability to carve out chances for his teammates.
Parriego was previously a part of the Real Madrid academy before he moved to Rayo Vallecano’s youth setup, where he has blossomed.
Last season he was one of the most outstanding players in the División de Honor, which attracted the interest of other big European football clubs apart from Barcelona.
Manchester City and Real Madrid were on the list of admirers of the 18-year-old but he has ultimately chosen to join the Blaugrana.
The youngster will be a part of the Juvenil A setup under Juliano Belletti and will hope to progress through the ranks to break into the senior team in due time.
