Sources: Westerlo rejects Hamburg’s offer for USMNT’s Bryan Reynolds

Bryan Reynolds’ growth into one of the more consistent right backs in the Belgian Pro League reportedly caught the eye of German second-tier side Hamburg.

Hamburg was in discussions with Reynolds’ parent club Westerlo over a potential transfer this summer, however, the two sides failed to agree on a fee, a source close to the player confirmed to SBI. Reynolds has remained in Belgium, featuring in both of Westerlo’s opening matches of the new league season.

Hamburg proceeded to turn its attention towards 26-year-old Silvan Hefti, who joined in a permanent deal from Italian club Genoa.

Westerlo previously acquired Reynolds on loan in 2022 from AS Roma before triggering a purchase option in July 2023. Reynolds, 23, has since totaled 70 combined appearances for the Belgian side, totaling one goal and 10 assists.

He’s also featured for AS Roma and fellow Belgian side Kortrijk following his move abroad from FC Dallas in 2021.

Reynolds, who has earned seven U.S. men’s national team caps to date, was not selected for Olympic duty in Marko Mitrovic’s squad despite making seven previous appearances.

Westerlo has defeated Cercle Brugge and Mechelen respectively in its opening two matches and next hosts Union St. Gilloise on Saturday.
