Saudi FA boss promises country will ‘astonish’ the world with 2034 World Cup hosting

July 31 – Speaking after the bid book for the hosting of the 2034 World Cup was handed in to FIFA in Paris on Monday, Yasser Al Misehal (pictured), president, Saudi Arabian Football Federation said, that they will deliver an event that will “astonish the world”.

Emphasising the support of the country’s leadership for the 2034 bid, Misehal said: “It is a historic moment for us as Saudis, filled with pride and honour. We are privileged to have generous and extensive support from our visionary leadership particularly the backing and empowerment from his royal highness crown prince Mohammed bn Salman as well as the dedicated oversight of our passionate Minister of Sport.”

He also acknowledged the “significant co-operation” across the countries government and wider to make the hosting a possibility.

“We have confidence, first in God, and then in the Saudi citizens to deliver a truly exceptional event that will amaze the world.

“Today 60% of Saudi Arabia’s population is under the age of 30 and there is an enormous demand for playing football.

“The FIFA World Cup 2034 will be a golden opportunity to showcase the strength of Saudi Arabia, the dedication of its people, their harmony with the leadership and their great unity in presenting an outstanding and unique image.”

Referencing Saudi Arabia’s Asian Cup win 40 years ago, the hosting of the U-20 World Cup 35 years ago, and their first participation in the world cup 30 years ago, Misehal said: “All those achievements make it a grand dream to host this major global event and to astonish the world, especially football enthusiasts.”
