Now or never – Barcelona send clear message to €58 million top target

When Spain were crowned champions of UEFA Euro 2024, FC Barcelona immediately set their sights on signing Nico Williams and bringing him into their squad.

Following his impressive exploits on the international stage and incredible chemistry with Lamine Yamal, seen throughout the tournament including the final, Barcelona declared Nico a priority target.

However, despite having the required resources to activate the Basque winger’s €58 million release clause, the operation is at a deadlock, primarily due to Williams’ silence.

Hesitant to bid his boyhood club goodbye, doubts are creeping into Nico Williams’ camp as he contemplates his next destination.

Barcelona’s patience is running thin

Now, according to Què T’hi Jugues, there is noticeably more pessimism within the expedition than there was a few weeks ago. While Barcelona are aware that the player is having doubts, the club has not yet ruled him out.

In an attempt to speed up the matter, Barcelona’s message to Nico Williams is clear and urgent: it is now or never.

The Catalan giants are conveying that now is the decisive opportunity for him to join them, and if he does not commit at this juncture, it may be too late to secure a move to Barcelona in the future.

Even though Nico Williams may be open to a move next summer, the Barcelona ship may have sailed by then as the club potentially diverts its focus to other left-wing targets.

For his part, Williams is considering only two options: making a move to Barcelona or continuing his career at Athletic Club. As such, the threat of any external competitor, like PSG, does not faze the Blaugranes.

As the final month of the transfer window rolls in, more clarity is expected to be achieved on the matter.
