The big takeaway from Hansi Flick’s initial days at Barcelona is that the new manager trusts the academy and young talents.
During his first win as a Barcelona manager against UE Olot last night, the German tactician deployed several La Masia stars including Toni Fernandez, Guille Fernandez and Noah Darvich among others.
Needless to say, it is clear why the administration are looking to tie down some of the academy’s top talents in recent days and Dani Rodriguez appears to be the next in line.
Renewal around the corner
As revealed earlier this week, Barcelona take Rodriguez’ renewal for granted at this point given the player’s desire to defend the Blaugrana colours and his high ceiling.
Now, according to an update from Mundo Deportivo, the player has committed to staying in Catalonia for five more seasons. He will be a critical component of the Barça Atletic side that will be led by Albert Sanchez.
The player is currently representing the Spanish under-19 outfit in the ongoing U19 European Championship and will participate in the finale against France on Sunday.
The report thus suggests that Rodriguez will sign his renewal officially once he returns from Ireland after the event.
Competition from the Basque country
Rodriguez’s current contract with Barcelona extends until the summer of 2027. However, Joan Laporta and Co. are in a hurry to extend his deal for longer immediately given the growing competition for his signing.
The Basque-born player arrived at Barcelona in 2020 from Real Sociedad and his spectacular growth has attracted serious interest from Real Sociedad and Athletic Club.
Prompted by the interest, Barcelona opted to bypass their clause to extend his current deal and offer him a superior one.
