Barcelona to speed up renewal process of key midfielder in coming weeks

Barcelona are preparing to accelerate the process of renewing Frenkie de Jong’s contract in the coming weeks, according to a recent report from SPORT. 

According to the outlet, this renewal is seen as crucial for the club as they aim to bolster their financial stability in the transfer market. Currently, discussions regarding his contract have made little progress, but the club is eager to finalise a new deal soon.

De Jong, who is still recovering from an ankle injury and aiming to be fit for the upcoming season, is not on the market despite recent media speculation. Neither the player nor Barcelona is interested in exploring transfer options at this time. 

Barcelona are moving strategically

Interestingly, the situation around his contract renewal has become a growing concern. A few months ago, Barcelona initiated talks about a new deal, but these discussions have yet to advance significantly. 

Since his current deal expires in 2026, Deco is keen on resolving the matter before the end of the year. Securing a long-term agreement is seen as a top priority for the club.
