Newcastle’s new sporting director Paul Mitchell has been speaking to the club’s media channel for the first time since joining the club.
Several topics were discussed and his vision was made clear. Having watched the interview I was hugely impressed and noted that he was keen to stress patience as they build the project.

His role is covering all of the football side of the club, men’s team, woman’s team and the academy. Including recruitment.
Will focus on player development with a path to the first team as the club needs to improve in this area.
Adidas trip has been brilliant in terms of connecting with players, staff and directors.
Delighted with the women’s team and back-to-back promotions, wants us to be leaders in women’s football in the next 5 years.
Knows Eddie Howe well from their time working on the south coast and feels his player development will mesh with Eddie’s coaching and development skills.
Admitted Howe was one of the big reasons he was keen to take the job.
Bringing in James Bunce as performance director and wanted ‘best in class’.
Drawn to this growth project but stresses patience as the rebuilding of the club continues.
Mentioned ‘one or two’ areas to improve the first team this summer but not wholesale to disrupt squad.
Keen to plot a strategy that keeps Newcastle in the Champions League not once every 5 years but every season.
He seems passionate, excited to get started, an expert in his field and articulated himself very well. Overall, it was a welcome chance to hear Paul speak and outline his vision and objectives for the club.
