La Masia graduate Dani Olmo made waves for Spain in the most recently concluded UEFA Euro 2024 tournament, helping them lift the title with crucial contributions in the knockout stages.
He emerged from the tournament as the top scorer and a crucial player for the triumphant Spanish national team, subsequently drawing the long-standing interest of Barcelona.
However, Olmo remains a man in high demand and the Catalan giants are bound to have their work cut out if they aspire to achieve his signing this summer.
Olmo could be headed to La Liga rivals
Indeed, according to BILD, Atletico Madrid are strongly positioned as the frontrunner to secure Dani Olmo’s signature.
His release clause stands at €60 million until this Saturday, and the player is keen on a return to Spain, making Atletico’s pursuit particularly promising.

Bayern Munich had also been reported to be eager to acquire Olmo’s services from RB Leipzig. Still, the 26-year-old’s desire to return to Spain provides Atletico Madrid an advantage in the race.
Having recently just bid farewell to Alvaro Morata, who joined AC Milan, the Rojiblancos have freed up some space in their wage bill.
As such, the possibility of Barça facing one of their priority targets on a frequent basis next season is high.

This setback is significant for Barcelona, especially since they had earmarked Dani Olmo as a fallback option should their pursuit of Nico Williams falter.
With Atletico Madrid now in contention and the window to trigger Olmo’s release clause narrowing, Barcelona may find themselves pressured to withdraw from the race and concentrate entirely on securing Nico Williams.
Olmo has in the past shown an inclination to reunite with the Blaugranes, but due to the club’s frail financial situation, his signing appears unfeasible at this point in time.
