Manchester City star rejects Saudi Arabia offers, only wants Barcelona move

Barcelona are working ’round the clock to reinforce the team this summer and one of the club’s priorities is to ensure the return of Joao Cancelo.

The Manchester City fullback spent the 2023/24 campaign on loan at Barcelona. And despite a relatively poor end to the campaign, the defender is wanted by new coach Hansi Flick.

Barcelona are actively involved in negotiations with Man City over a potential extension of Cancelo’s loan deal, but the operation has been complicated by interest from other parties.

Saudi Arabia, in particular, has shown concrete interest in Cancelo in recent weeks, with the state ready to offer the Portuguese a lucrative salary.

However, in a major boost for Barcelona, it appears Cancelo has rejected the advances from Saudi Arabia, reports Daily Briefing.

The Portuguese international has informed his agent Jorge Mendes that he does not want to move to Saudi Arabia. Moreover, he has reiterated his desire to return to Barcelona.

This is a positive for the Catalan outfit, who are hoping to re-acquire the services of the former Juventus fullback.

Interestingly, the likes of Juventus and Inter Milan have sounded out a potential move for Cancelo this summer. In fact, the defender has received widespread interest from other European clubs.

Man City, for their part, have tried their best to sell Cancelo on a permanent deal this summer. However, their asking price of €25 million, coupled with the player’s high salary demands has deterred many interested parties.

This plays into the hands of FC Barcelona. With Cancelo keen on returning to Camp Nou, the Catalans should have the upper hand in negotiations, as the two parties look to work out a deal in the coming weeks.
