Barcelona starlet Alejandro Balde will return to group training next week in what comes as a massive boost to Hansi Flick’s plans. After all, the German is known for milking the most out of his full-backs and developing them into superstars.
Heading into next season, however, Barcelona lack a direct backup in the left-back position. Joao Cancelo covered the void last season, and with the Portuguese star’s future itself uncertain, Alex Valle has emerged as a serious option.
The young full-back has been called up for pre-season under Hansi Flick and the manager values him as an able backup option. His contractual situation, however, is worrying.
On the edge
Valle’s contract with Barcelona runs out in June 2025 and everything indicated that Barcelona are interested in renewing the youngster’s deal.
The catch, however, is that the youngster has already agreed terms with the club over a new contract, reports MARCA.
Having committed to a proposal worth €1.2 million per season and a guaranteed place in the first-team, Joan Laporta and Co. must now decide if they will comply with the same terms or re-negotiate the contract with Valle.
In either case, a decision must be made before August 1, for Barcelona’s failure to activate the new deal by then, will see the player’s release clause drop to a mere €3 million.
Only one audition
Barcelona begin their pre-season tour only late in the month and will play only one of their three scheduled pre-season friendlies before August begins.
Considering that Barcelona’s clash against Manchester City will be the team’s only game in July, it will be the only chance for Flick to see Valle in action before the deadline.
It thus remains to be seen if the manager and president take a decision based on what Valle shows in training or will wait until the very end to take a call.
In the end, however, it is only a question of the terms and whether the youngster is open to renegotiation.
