Defending champions Italy need a point against Croatia in Leipzig to make certain of a place in the last 16 of Euro 2024.
Luciano Spalletti’s side won their Group B opener – against Albania – but then went down 1-0 to Spain in a defeat that was more conclusive than the scoreline suggested. Spalletti will be looking for better from his side against a Croatia team that have struggled to get going in Germany.
Having been brushed aside by Spain, they were on the brink of beating Albania in Hamburg only to concede a 95th-minute equaliser from Klaus Gjasula. They must win to stand any chance of going through.
Croatia’s Mario Pasalic told UEFA.com: “We’re best when it’s hardest. We have shown many times that this saying is accurate. Many of us have already played in big matches, both for the national team and for our clubs. A similar game awaits us against Italy and I hope that we will prove that motto correct on Monday.”
