Leicester City name Steve Cooper as new boss

Leicester City will return to the Premier League with Steve Cooper as their new manager.

The Foxes confirmed the appointment this morning, filling the void left by Enzo Maresca’s departure to Chelsea.

Maresca guided Leicester back to the top flight at the first time of asking last season and Cooper’s task will be to ensure they remain there, although his job could be made harder due to a potential points deduction after the club were charged with breaching Profit and Sustainability Rules stemming back to the 2022-23 campaign.

Cooper has signed a three-year deal at the King Power Stadium, and said: “I am really excited and proud to be appointed Leicester City’s First Team Manager. This is a fantastic Club with a rich history and passionate supporters. I am excited to work with such a talented squad and I’m looking forward to the challenge of achieving our shared ambitions in the Premier League.”

Cooper comes with an impressive pedigree

The Welshman started his coaching journey with the FA, overseeing England’s youth teams, before taking over at Swansea City.

His impressive work in twice guiding the Swans to the Championship play-offs saw him appointed Nottingham Forest boss in September 2021 with the club bottom of the second tier.

A dramatic improvement in form saw Forest promoted that season and he preserved their Premier League status before leaving the City Ground in December last year.
