Newcastle complete hat-trick as unsettled Mag stars in perfect 72 hours at Euro 2024

It’s been a successful start to Euro 2024 for Newcastle’s international stars as every single Mag opened the tournament with a victory with their respective teams.

Fabian Schar started in Switzerland’s opening game against Hungary as they recorded a 3-1 win on Saturday, where the centre-back went on a couple of his mazy runs up the pitch and showed his quality from the back in Group A.

Kieran Trippier played the full 90 minutes as England beat Serbia 1-0 on Sunday evening, while Anthony Gordon was left on the bench despite the left side of England’s attack being fairly ineffective all night.

Then Martin Dubravka completed the hat-trick on Monday and enjoyed arguably the best opener of the four, pulling off five saves and keeping a clean sheet as his Slovakian side pulled off a shock 1-0 victory against Belgium in Group E.

The 35-year-old issued a “don’t care” message on his Newcastle future last week in response to the James Trafford rumours, but he’ll have done his chances of a summer move no harm after that shutout against the likes of Lukaku, De Bruyne and Doku.

All four are now in very strong positions to qualify for the knockout stages and will play once again this week, with Schar (Switzerland) facing Scotland on Wednesday, Trippier and Gordon (England) playing Denmark on Thursday and Dubravka (Slovakia) taking on Ukraine this Friday.
