Earlier today, reports emerged claiming that FC Barcelona have made Bayer Leverkusen wonderkid Florian Wirtz their dream target for 2025.
The Catalans have been admirers of the versatile German attacker for some time now and current sporting director, Deco, sees the Bundesliga title-winner as a key target for the club.
As such, the idea is for Barça to go after Wirtz’s signing in 2025 when they hope to be in a much better situation with regard to their finances.
Wirtz dreamt of Barcelona
Amidst the latest rumours linking Wirtz to Barcelona, the German international’s past words regarding his admiration for the Catalans have now resurfaced.
Indeed, back in 2022, Wirtz publicly admitted that his childhood dream was to play for Barça and insisted that it had not changed.
“As a child, I dreamed of playing for Barça and that hasn’t changed. I had posters hanging in my room; of Leo, Dembélé, Aubameyang…,” he had said, as quoted by Mundo Deportivo.
Wirtz also had gone on record to state that he idolised Barcelona legend Lionel Messi, saying: “My first shirt was Messi’s with Argentina, the best, nobody could play like him.”

More recently, Wirtz also claimed that he also follows on-loan Barça forward Joao Felix, who is likely to be re-signed on loan from Atletico Madrid for one more season.
“He is a similar type of player to me, very creative and I learned that from him,” the 21-year-old sensation said.
Not an easy transfer
While Wirtz may be an admirer of Barcelona and the Catalans dream of signing him, the operation will not be easy to pull off.
For starters, Barça will have to deal with competition from a host of top European clubs, including their arch-rivals Real Madrid, who are seen as the best placed team to sign him in 2025.
The likes of Bayern Munich and Manchester City are also interested.
