Journalist Gabriel Sans of Mundo Deportivo reports that defender Eric Garcia wishes to remain at Barcelona, but the new manager, Hansi Flick, does not see him in his future plans for the team.
The outlet mentions that despite Garcia’s strong desire to stay with Barça, he is open to the possibility of moving to Girona as well, as he knows he is highly regarded there.
At present, nothing is confirmed, but there will be a meeting soon between Flick and the club’s sporting director, Deco, to make a final decision on Garcia’s future.
This meeting is crucial, as it will determine the team’s lineup and address various needs based on the club’s financial situation.
Garcia and other defenders need clarity
Barcelona are eagerly awaiting Flick’s decisions, especially regarding the overcrowded position of central defenders.
Currently, there are seven central defenders, and with Mikayil Faye from the reserve team, the number rises to eight.
Flick will need to reduce this number in order to meet the Financial Fair Play rule.
Meanwhile, Garcia has returned to Barça after a year on loan at Girona, where he performed exceptionally well, even becoming the highest-scoring defender in La Liga.

As of today, he is seeking clarity from Barcelona, as although he wants to stay, he is also open to the idea of returning to Girona if he is not included in Flick’s plans.
Girona really admire Garcia
During his season at Girona, Garcia was a key player for the team, playing both as a centre-back and a right-back. He played in 33 games, totalling 2,726 minutes on the field, and scored five goals, all of them with headers.
His goal-scoring ability was so impressive that he outperformed even Real Madrid’s Dani Carvajal, becoming the top-scoring defender in the league.
