Barcelona could offer two youngsters as makeweights in deal for midfield target

According to a report from SPORT, two young Barcelona players, defender Mikayil Faye and midfielder Pablo Torre, have caught the attention of Real Sociedad and Barcelona might use them as part of a bargaining chip to sign Mikel Merino.

It is no secret that Barcelona are planning to make a move for Merino if they can manage their salary budget effectively.

This opportunity looks promising because Merino has not renewed his contract, which could make him available at a better price, with reports suggesting an offer worth €25 million plus variables could be made.

Currently, there are no formal discussions, but Barcelona have set some guidelines. They are aware that Real Sociedad like some of their players, especially those who might not fit into Barcelona’s new plans. 

Faye and Torre are among these players, as both have attracted significant interest from other teams, indicating their potential value in the transfer market.

It is suggested that Real Sociedad might need a new centre-back if Robin Le Normand leaves and for that, they have been keeping an eye on Faye. 

Now, Deco believes that Faye could be crucial for the team’s future and wants to keep him, but the player is seeking assurances about his playing time and role in the team, beyond just being a squad member with a salary increase. 

Barcelona already have many centre-backs, which could limit Faye’s opportunities. They might test him in the pre-season as a left-sided defender, but if Faye is not convinced about his future role, he might push for a move.

Meanwhile, Torre has performed well while on loan at Girona, but he could struggle to get playing time at Barcelona, especially if the club signs a new defensive midfielder, which is a priority for them.
