Barcelona are ready to make serious changes to their squad this coming summer, as the club look to usher into a new era under Hansi Flick.
One of the club’s priorities is to bring in a new defensive midfielder, who can offer a sense of stability and security to the backline.
For a while, Barcelona have been linked with a move for Everton’s midfield powerhouse Amadou Onana. The player appears to be liked by Flick as well, and keeping that in mind, the club could attempt to snap him up in the coming summer.
Barcelona’s bid to sign Onana could be helped by Everton’s economic turmoil, which might force the Toffees to offload the midfielder on a cut-price deal.
Barcelona to face Bayern competition
However, Barcelona’s pursuit of Amadou Onana is about to get much trickier as the Everton starlet has emerged as one of Bayern Munich’s top targets this summer.
This is according to Christian Falk, who has listed out a series of talents Bayern will be targeting in an attempt to revamp their squad ahead of the new season.

Having recently hired Vincent Kompany as their new manager, Bayern are likely to target multiple Premier League talents.
One of them is Amadou Onana. The young Belgian has recently hinted that he is ready to take the next step in his career. Clubs like Bayern and Barcelona, to that end, could emerge as ideal destinations.
Can Barcelona compete with Bayern?
Unlike Bayern, Barcelona do not have the financial capacity to provide tough competition in the race to sign Amadou Onana this summer.
The Belgian international, after all, could easily cost a fortune given his sheer impact in the Premier League. Earlier reports had even given a ballpark figure of €80 million, though that figure could significantly decrease.
However, one potential tailwind for Barcelona could be that Onana is not Bayern’s only target in their bid to reinforce the ranks in the midfield unit.
