Hull City sack Liam Rosenior after missing Championship play-offs

Hull City have reportedly parted ways with boss Liam Rosenior after finishing outside the Championship play-offs.

The 39-year-old – who played more than 150 games for the Tigers during his playing career – had been nominated for the division’s Manager of the Year accolade this season, but has been sacked according to widespread reports on Tuesday afternoon.

Expectations were high in East Yorkshire when City were sitting sixth at Christmas and brought in the likes of Fabio Carvalho and Billy Sharp in the January transfer window.

However Rosenior’s side finished the season by taking only 16 points from their final 13 games, winning just three of them, and have won only twice in 11 home games in all competitions since the turn of the year.

After a three month stint as interim manager at Derby in 2022, Rosenior was appointed at the MKM Stadium in November 2022 and signed a new three year contract just last December.

After going down 1-0 at relegation-battling Plymouth in Saturday’s season finale, Rosenior told BBC Sport: “From where we’ve come from last season and what we’ve built there is a bedrock and a real foundation for us to go on and achieve in the long term for this club.”
