Newcastle agree to exciting St James’ Park expansion plan after six-month study – Report

An exciting exclusive has emerged from The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards, revealing that Newcastle United have opted to extend and upgrade St James’ Park ahead of a multi-million redevelopment.

After a six-month feasibility study, architects have offered solutions that would allow us to expand the capacity beyond 60,000 and modernise facilities throughout the stadium.

The Telegraph insist that the club are unlikely to go public with the expansion plans ‘anytime soon’, but it’s being described as ‘one of the most ambitious stadium rebuilds seen in this country’ and will end talk of moving to another site; an idea that did not go down well with large section of the fanbase.

Before redevelopment begins, Newcastle plan to discuss the length of their leasehold on St James’ Park. It still has 70 years left to run, but there’ll be discussions with Newcastle council to extend this, as the Saudi Public Investment Fund are keen to ensure ‘long term security’ on an investment they will be funding.
