Mateta set to stay at Selhurst Park

Crystal Palace are one of the form teams in the Premier League at present, with the Oliver Glasner era finally getting going.

A 5-2 win over West Ham which followed a superb 1-0 win at Anfield has highlighted just how well the Austrian has got the South Londoners playing.

Their most recent result was a 2-0 home victory over an impressive Newcastle United team, with Jean-Philippe Mateta bagging both goals.

Mateta’s good form has been one of the features of Glasner’s time at the club, and since the new manager’s time in charge the forward has plundered eight goals per WhoScored.

Mateta to stay at Palace

It’s a sensational turn around given that he’d only managed a paltry three since the beginning of the campaign.

Indeed, with such a poor output before Glasner’s arrival, there was every reason to expect that he would be sold this summer.

According to La Colina de Nervion, Sevilla have virtually abandoned their intentions of signing him, however, with the outlet going as far as to suggest a ‘goodbye’ to the transfer.

In such a rich vein of form and with Palace playing to his strengths, there’s little doubt that the Eagles would want to keep hold of their hit-man.

He is a centre-forward in the truest sense, given his physicality and ability to win balls in the air or strong-arm defenders out of challenges on the ground. In short, he’s a real handful.

If Glasner and the board have any sense, they’ll hone the skills of the players on the supply line to the forward and perhaps look to bring in others to supplement that.

It would serve no real purpose for the club to try and cash in on him when he’s playing as well as he has of late – even if adding a few million pounds to club coffers might put a smile on owner, Steve Parish’s face.
