With Xavi Hernandez now set to continue as the manager of FC Barcelona, the focus has now shifted to the squad-planning for the next season.
The manager’s main aim is to retain his best players while making a couple of key additions to the squad in the form of a new pivot midfielder and a left-winger, along with Bernardo Silva.
As far as the signings are concerned, much will depend on Barcelona’s economic and Fair Play situation, although there is confidence that they will be able to operate under the 1:1 rule.
Xavi has two preferred options
In that case, Xavi has two options that he prefers as far as the pivot midfield position is concerned, reports Mundo Deportivo.
The pivot position has been a point of concern for Barça since Sergio Busquets’ exit last summer and Xavi believes that the club need a top player to address the matter.
As per the report, the Barcelona manager is a huge admirer of Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi and Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich and would love to have one of them in the squad.

Both Zubimendi and Kimmich had been on the club’s agenda last summer as well, but the economic situation prevented any operation from materialising.
Zubimendi remains on the Catalans’ agenda but is also being courted by Arsenal and Bayern Munich heading into the summer.
As for Kimmich, he could be out of Bayern this summer and there are multiple factors that could make his signing for Barcelona a possibility.
As mentioned earlier, though, any move for either Zubimendi or Kimmich would depend on the financial situation at the club.
In case there are no funds, a move for Guido Rodriguez, who will be a free agent in the summer, will likely be explored.
