Xavi has not given any ‘hints’ about his future at Barcelona, will depend on tomorrow’s meeting

Barcelona have their work cut out for them in the summer transfer window as they look to replace some urgent parts of the squad in an attempt to compete at the highest level in European football.

However, before they even try to target players, sorting out the coaching situation is much more important.

Xavi had announced his decision to leave the club in the summer, which Barcelona have not taken to entirely positively.

With no money in the bank to hire a top manager, and the lack of mutual consensus over the next coach, Barcelona are hoping to convince Xavi to stay at the club beyond the summer, and have arranged a meeting this week to speak to him.

Xavi’s poker face

According to a report published by Javi Miguel, Xavi has not given any indications about his future in Barcelona yet. While he has apparently asked for signings in the summer as one of his conditions to continue, he has maintained a poker face about his stance.

A lot will depend on the meeting with the board tomorrow as Barcelona look to find a solution that suits all parties.

However, at this point it seems difficult that Barça will be able to find money in the bank for top signings such as the pivot position or full-backs immediately. Instead, they might have to settle for another stop-gap.

What are Barcelona’s other options?

Unfortunately at this point, Barcelona do not have too many options over Xavi’s replacement if he chooses not to continue. There are, however, two possible routes they can take.

One would be promoting Rafael Marquez from Barça Atletic next season after his great work with the team this season. This would be the coward’s way out for Barcelona, though, but one that would be expected of Joan Laporta’s board.
