Newcastle handed European boost and Premier League warning without kicking a ball

Newcastle United haven’t kicked a ball this weekend, but results in the Premier League have only boosted our hopes of securing European football next season.

West Ham would’ve gone above us and moved to 6th had they beaten Crystal Palace on Sunday, but the Eagles absolutely battered the Hammers, racing into a 4-0 lead and ending the match 5-2 winners.

We now have two games in hand on David Moyes’ side and a two-point advantage. Not only that, West Ham have some tough remaining fixtures, with Liverpool, Man City and Chelsea to come in three of their final four games.

Their loss has left many feeling 6th and 7th place is now a three-horse race between Newcastle (50pts), Man Utd (50pts) and Chelsea (47pts), but the nature of Palace’s impressive win is an early warning ahead of our trip to Selhurst Park on Wednesday night.

The Eagles won 1-0 at Liverpool the weekend before last and looked superb on Sunday, with Eze and Olise running riot either side of an in-form Mateta who has now scored five goals in their last four home games.

Newcastle arrive in form, fresh from a 4-0 win over Spurs and well rested (for once) after a weekend off, but we’ll have to play well to win at Palace in Wednesday’s 8pm kick-off.
