According to The Athletic, there’s now growing confidence at Newcastle United that Bruno Guimaraes will remain on Tyneside this summer.
In an in-depth piece on Joelinton’s contract resolution, Chris Waugh reveals that the U-turn on his future could play a huge role in keeping his Brazilian compatriot at the club.
The pair are close friends – big Joe was best man at his wedding – but there were serious fears Joelinton would be sold this summer after contract talks reached an ‘impasse’ in January.
The Athletic believe this would’ve had a huge bearing on Bruno’s future, especially when ‘senior figures’ at St James’ Park were already wary of growing interest from Man City and PSG heading into the new year.
However, those worries have ‘diluted’ now Joelinton has committed his long-term future to the club, coupled with the fact none of Bruno’s potential suitors have indicated that they’re willing to trigger his £100m release clause as of yet.
Not only that, The Telegraph have revealed that Bruno has provided a positive hint of his own recently by purchasing a new house worth £4m in Northumberland. That’s hardly the move of a family man about to pack his bags, is it?
Mix in with that our improved form, hope of a Europa League finish, Bruno revealing how happy he is at the club and reports insisting we do NOT have to sell a big name to avoid an FFP breach, it’s starting to look quite positive heading into a huge summer.
