£60m duo closing in on Newcastle return as behind-the-scenes footage reveals good news

Some behind-the-scenes footage from Newcastle United’s media team has offered a promising update on the fitness of Joelinton and Miguel Almiron.

In a video dedicated to Joelinton signing a new contract at the club last Thursday, cameramen at the club’s Benton base show the Brazilian back in light training alongside Almiron.

The footage shows physio Daniel Marti giving the pair instructions before they get back on the grass to do fitness work, training drills and ball work, suggesting the pair are stepping up their comebacks from injury. As the video was put together the day big Joe signed a new deal (last Thursday), they’ll be even further along in their recovery a week later and could be back in full training soon, if they aren’t already.

Joelinton underwent surgery on his thigh following our 3-0 win over Sunderland in the FA Cup, while Miggy has missed our last three league games after suffering a knee issue in last month’s 4-3 win over West Ham.

Next week’s trip to Crystal Palace is likely to come too soon for both, but these are promising signs and offer hope that our South American duo can play a part in the final few games of the 2023/24 season.
