Breaking news on Tuesday morning as Newcastle look set to announce four-year deal

Some brilliant news to wake up to this morning for Newcastle United fans, as it’s been revealed that Joelinton looks set to finally sign a new deal at St James’ Park.

The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards reveals that there’s been a breakthrough in talks following a series of positive meetings with the player and his representatives.

It’s believed the Brazilian will sign a four-year deal on Tyneside – keeping him at the club until he’s 31 – which is expected to be announced later this month in a huge boost to Eddie Howe.

Joelinton was approaching the final 12 months of his contract and was likely to be made available for transfer this summer if he refused to sign an extension. But this breakthrough will see him extend his stay and become one of the top earner at the club alongside the likes of Bruno Guimaraes.

Edwards adds that Steve Nickson has played a key role in talks, with our head of recruitment the man that scouted him at Hoffenheim prior to his £40m move to Newcastle United back in 2019.
