Barcelona will not pursue a ‘superstar’ signing in the next two years

Barcelona have multiple responsibilities on their hands ahead of and during the summer transfer window.

To return to the 1:1 spending rule in La Liga, they will have to offload players and bring down their wage bill. Otherwise, they will face problems registering players again, as they have so often in the last few seasons.

Barça will also need to figure out precisely who to spend money on and how much to cover up the team’s weaknesses.

They are concerned about the pivot position, with Amadou Onana, Jorginho, and Joshua Kimmich all viable options.

Similarly, the left-wing position is also an option, but Barcelona seems to continue to bet on Joao Felix for that role.

Barcelona were considering a move for a superstar to compete with Real Madrid’s signing of Kylian Mbappe and had AC Milan’s Rafael Leao on their radar.

The Portuguese forward would cost, at minimum, over €100 million, which just sounded impossible in theory for the Catalan club. And as it turns out, it is.

Barcelona will not chase big names

In a rough financial spot, Barcelona cannot afford to shell out hundreds of millions of Euros on one player, as they did in the past with the likes of Ousmane Dembele, Antoine Griezmann, and Philippe Coutinho.

That route is what landed them in trouble in the first place.

As such, it is unsurprising that the trusted journalist Adrian Sanchez revealed to Barca Universal that Barcelona will not be chasing any superstar signing this summer.

In fact, signing a big name is also ruled out next summer, assuming that Barcelona will not be able to completely fix its delicate financial situation by then.

The Haaland agenda

Barcelona may be broke and bust, but they continue to dream big. It was reported multiple times over last month that the Blaugranes will pursue the signing of Erling Haaland in the summer of 2025.

This is their way to counter Real Madrid, who will likely bring Kylian Mbappe and Alphonso Davies in the summer.
