Chelsea vs Manchester United Prediction: Team to Win, Form

The biggest match of this midweek round of fixtures sees Chelsea host Manchester United at Stamford Bridge.

Both teams have performed well below expectations this season, and at the time of writing Man Utd are in sixth, 11 points adrift of the top four, while Chelsea are in 12th.

The Blues do have a couple of games in hand over their closest rivals in the table, though, so are still in contention to qualify for Europe.

Current Form

Since two straight defeats against Liverpool and Wolves at the end of January into the start of February, Chelsea have gone five games unbeaten in the league, though only two of them have been victories.

At the weekend, they could only manage a 2-2 home draw against lowly Burnley, who went down to 10 men.

Chelsea haven’t kept a clean sheet in 11 games and conceded 22 goals in that time.

Man Utd’s current form

Man Utd’s recent form has been a microcosm of their season as a whole as they have been inconsistent.

In the last five Premier League games, they have won two, lost two and drawn one, though sandwiched in between those matches was the dramatic FA Cup victory against Liverpool.

In their last game, United thought they had claimed all three points with a dramatic, late goal from Mason Mount versus Brentford. However, the home side scored an equaliser in the 96th minute.

Team News

Chelsea will be without Wesley Fofana, Romeo Lavia, Christopher Nkunku, Reece James, Lesley Ugochukwu, Levi Colwill, Carney Chukwuemeka, Robert Sanchez and Trevoh Chalobah.

Malo Gusto and Ben Chilwell might be passed fit, though they will be assessed closer to the game.

Confidence isn’t exactly flowing for either side so the most likely outcome here is a draw.
