Eric Garcia was one of many Barcelona players who had to settle for a loan spell elsewhere, as part of the club’s plan to trim the squad.
Formerly of Manchester City, Garcia joined Girona on a season-long loan deal – a move that has turned out to be highly beneficial for the Spaniard.
As we approach the final phase of the campaign, Garcia has enjoyed a top season at Girona under the leadership of Michel. His performances, in fact, have helped strengthen the perception around him, as he prepares to return to Barcelona at the end of the season.

In a recent interview, Eric Garcia confirmed he will be returning to Barça in the summer.
“I have a contract, I have to return once once the season ends. What is 100% certain is that I will return to Barça. Then, once I am there, I will see what happens,” he told RAC1 (h/t Diario SPORT).
Garcia went on to suggest that he is ready to compete with other Barcelona stars for a place in the first-team next season.
“Competition makes everyone better and in the summer I did have a personal need to go out, to play every weekend, to be able to enjoy playing day in and day out again.

“Once I return to Barça, I know that there are centre-backs who are doing very well, but I am also doing well here,” he said.
Garcia heaps praise on Pau Cubarsi
Garcia, though, took a moment to applaud Pau Cubarsi, who has enjoyed a meteoric growth over the last couple of months and has been central to Barcelona’s recent upturn of fortunes.
“Pau Cubarsi has been a surprise for everyone. I had already seen him because he had come up to train with us and he looked like a kid who saw different things. He has shown it, he performs at a very high level,” he said.
Garcia added that it is important for clubs to have patience with young players and the team must always protect them.
