Chelsea vs Newcastle now even bigger after weekend results – Updated PL table

Tonight’s trip to Chelsea was always going to be a big game, but results over the weekend have made it even bigger for Eddie Howe’s Mags as we slipped down to 10th.

Man Utd (6th) moved seven points clear of us on Saturday afternoon after a comfortable yet fortunate 2-0 win over Everton, where the Toffees missed big chances and conceded two penalties to gift Ten Hag the win.

Wolves (9th) then moved back above us thanks to a 2-1 victory over Fulham a few hours later, then we saw Brighton (8th) do the same on Sunday thanks to a 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest.

West Ham (7th) went 2-0 down at home to Burnley, but a stoppage time equaliser from Danny Ings earned them a point.

So, a win tonight could be huge for all sorts of reasons. It would see us move seven clear of Chelsea, it would move us back up to 7th, close the gap to Man Utd once again and keep the momentum going after our 3-0 win over Wolves last time out.
