As the hunt for a new manager continues at FC Barcelona, more and more speculations regarding potential candidates continue to emerge.
For the past few weeks it has been suggested that the likes of Hansi Flick and Roberto De Zerbi are among the best-placed candidates to succeed Xavi Hernandez at the end of the season.
However, as per recent reports, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has emerged as a strong contender as well.
Laporta wants Arteta
Indeed, as reported on OnzeTV3, Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta is the favourite option of Barcelona president Joan Laporta to succeed Xavi at the club.
The Spanish tactician has done a solid job at the Emirates, turning the Gunners into genuine title challengers, going toe-to-toe with Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.
On top of that, the fact that Arteta is familiar with the Barça style and philosophy, having spent a few years at the club, as well as him starting his coaching career as Guardioala’s assistant work in his favour.

Contacts made, but deal complicated
On Wednesday, we reported that both Deco and Laporta like Arteta and the Catalans had even contacted him about a move.
However, as things stand, hiring Arteta from Arsenal will be a difficult operation to pull off, for the Spaniard has a contract with the Londoners until 2025 and is fully committed to the project he is building.
As such, for Barça to be able to appoint Arteta as Xavi’s successor, they would need him to negotiate the termination of his contract at Arsenal and might even be obliged to pay a fee, which is an issue in the current financial situation.
