Barcelona in talks to renew 18-year-old La Masia gem amid Athletic Club interest

Dani Rodriguez is one of the most promising players in the Barcelona youth academy. Currently a part of the Juvenil A squad, with whom he has had some brilliant games this season.

Although an injury suffered at the start of February put a brake on his progress, the 18-year-old’s potential is not going unnoticed. Neither is the fact that his contract with Barça expires on 30 June.

Athletic Club interested

Indeed, as per SPORT, La Liga side Athletic Club have taken an interest in Barcelona attacking midfield prodigy Dani Rodriguez, given his contract situation.

Athletic Club have been monitoring Rodriguez for many months. He is one of those players that the sporting director of the Basque club, Mikel González, has marked in red for the summer.

It must be remembered that the 18-year-old started out in the Basque region at the academy of Real Sociedad before making his way to La Masia in 2020.

Barcelona hoping to renew Dani Rodriguez

Barcelona are well aware of the interest in Dani Rodriguez from Athletic Club and other major teams and are working to secure his renewal, the report states.

The 18-year-old completes his contract on 30 June and is one of the priority operations for the club, who have already negotiated with his agent, Pini Zahavi, for his continuity.

Rodriguez, who has trained under Xavi on several occasions, has also played a leading role for Rafa Marquez’s Barça Atletic side.

As such, the sporting project offered to him by the club’s management will be key to his decision.
