EXCLUSIVE: Future of Newcastle United duo in serious doubt with summer exits on the cards

Callum Wilson’s future at Newcastle United is in major doubt, while Paul Dummett looks set to leave this summer with the club not expected to renew his contract.

‘Multiple’ clubs in Saudi Arabia are weighing up summer bids for the striker, who was open to a move to Atletico Madrid in January following interest from the La Liga giants.

He’s expected to miss at least another nine weeks following surgery on a pectoral injury picked up in our 3-2 win at Nottingham Forest. The 32-year-old won’t be rushed back and is approaching the final 12 months of his contract, meaning this summer could be Newcastle’s final chance to receive a substantial fee.

If Wilson was to stay, he’d likely have to take a pay cut and accept being third choice, with Newcastle planning to bring in another versatile forward this summer to compete with Alexander Isak.

As for Dummett, this will almost certainly be his final season at St James’ Park almost 11 years on from his Premier League debut for the club.

Sources close to the player have recently reinforced that, as things stand, he won’t receive a contract extension and will leave as a free agent at the end of the season.

The 32-year-old took a pay cut ahead of the 2023/24 season to secure another year at his boyhood club. His professionalism behind the scenes has been valued highly by Eddie Howe and he’s not let us down on the two occasions he’s started in Carabao Cup wins over Man Utd and Man City, keeping clean sheets in both games.

Dummett is keen to stay in the region and play regularly, although a role behind the scenes may be something he’d consider in the near future or further down the line.
