Barcelona have made some smart investments in the defensive unit in recent years.
Both Ronald Araujo and Andreas Christensen have done exceptionally well since joining the club, whereas Inigo Martinez was signed on a free transfer last summer.
Another wise investment from Barça in the defensive unit has been Mikayil Faye. Signed from NK Kustosija for just €2.2 million last summer, the Senegalese starlet has turned out to be an excellent signing this season.
Although Faye has yet to make a breakthrough in the first team, he is knocking on the doors. He has emerged as one of Barça Atletic’s finest performers this season.
Chelsea keen on Mika Faye
Needless to say, Mika Faye’s explosive performances in the subsidiary squad has not gone unnoticed.
According to Adrian Sanchez, Chelsea have emerged as the latest club to express their desire to sign the Barcelona youngster this summer.
As per Sanchez, Chelsea have contacted the agent of Faye, discussing the possibility of a potential move to Stamford Bridge in the coming summer.
The Premier League giants are no strangers when it comes to unearthing hidden defensive gems in the transfer market and it appears Faye is their next target.
Dortmund, Arsenal also interested
Chelsea are not the only club keen on signing Mika Faye this summer. Earlier this week, both Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund were linked with a move for the defender.
That means Barcelona are going to face a stiff battle in their bid to keep hold of the Senegalese starlet in the coming summer.
It is, therefore, important that the club set out a proper roadmap for Faye’s development. As mentioned earlier, the youngster is yet to make a breakthrough in the first team.
However, there is no reason why he cannot enjoy a more prominent role in the senior squad in the coming season.
Along with Pau Cubarsi, Faye could serve as an excellent alternative for the first-choice centre-backs.
