Barcelona closing in on decision regarding kit manufacturers, three options being considered

Amidst Barcelona’s hustle with the kit manufacturers, a report from Mundo Deportivo has affirmed that the team from Catalonia is close to making a decision.

Barcelona are currently exploring various possibilities to make an informed decision regarding the manufacturer of its next season’s jersey. 

Despite having a contractual agreement with Nike until 2028, the relationship between Barcelona and the company is strained for several reasons. 

These include challenges related to the supply of jerseys, the presence of ‘bonus-malus’ clauses that affect the club’s revenue, disparities in payment compared to offers from other companies such as Puma or New Balance, and restrictions imposed by Nike that prohibit Barcelona from selling its technical products internationally through ‘e-commerce’.

So what’s the plan?

As reported before, Barcelona are in talks with several manufacturers, including Puma, but no decision has been made yet.

Right now, Barcelona are considering three avenues as they approach the decision-making deadline for their next season’s kits. 

The choices on the table include the continuation of their partnership with Nike under improved conditions, opting for a more lucrative deal with another brand, or taking the bold step of manufacturing and directly distributing their own kits.

The latter two options, involving severing ties with Nike, could potentially lead to legal complications. Barcelona, however, are not dismissing this possibility outright and are weighing the advantages and disadvantages of such a move. 

While it would necessitate compensating Nike, it could also grant Barcelona the liberty to pursue partnerships with alternative technical sponsors or establish their own brand.
