Dan Ashworth: My gardening leave before I join R̶e̶a̶l̶ ̶M̶a̶d̶r̶i̶d̶ Man Utd

5am: I wake up at the same time every morning. I read for an hour – at the moment it’s “The Gardeners Almanac” by Alan Titchmarsh. I’ll have a coffee and check my inbox for any new job offers before tending to my azaleas

7am: I work out 5 days a week. I have a 6 pack and less than 18% body fat but my ego bloats. I guess we all have our imperfections.

10.30am: I’ll meet my PA, Lee Charnley, at the Weatherspoons next to Old Trafford. People pass and say “I didn’t expect to see you in Manchester” and I say, “why? It’s been f****** obvious for ages”.

12pm: Back home for lunch that my wife has ready for me on the table. She looks at me and says “please tell me we aren’t moving again”. She does that pretend crying thing she always does and say’s jokingly “marrying you was the worst decision of my life”. Bless her, she’s hilarious.

1.30pm: I like to spend time with my professional footballer son, Zac. He’s currently on loan at Bolton from West Brom who are both s*** clubs. I’ve told him time and time again if he just stops playing they have to place him on gardening leave on full pay until he get’s a new, shiny, better club. He says he “doesn’t respect me“. Again, I don’t know where they get their humour!

3pm: I go to my office and play football manager for 2 hours. I usually just put the game on holiday mode for 5 years and then see who the best players are. I’m making my Manchester United list at the moment. Unfortunately the game doesn’t say whether the players are gambling addicts or not. I’ll be honest, that would have been helpful.

6pm: I cook for my family once per week – grilled magpie with a knife in it’s back. I only drink at special occasions like birthdays, Christmas and when I get a new job etc, so about twice a week.

8pm: With the sun setting on the resplendent garden, my crying wife and a son who doesn’t respect me, I head to bed and look forward to getting this done and joining my next…
