Steve Bruce linked with shock return to football as two jobs come up

Former Toon boss Steve Bruce has been linked with a shock move to take charge of the South Korea National Team according to reports.

It comes after Jurgen Klinsmann was sacked by South Korea after failing to reach the final of the Asian Cup, with The Mirror reporting that Bruce is “keen” on the move and has also had interest from Saudi Arabia.

“Steve is aware of the interest from South Korea and it’s a position that definitely appeals to him,” a source told the Mirror.

“Steve is keen to get back into management and sees managing overseas as a good next step in his career.”

Bruce, the much derided predecessor of Eddie Howe has been out of work since being sacked by West Brom in 2022.

Famed online for his performance in press conferences, Bruce may be swapping “how’s the bacon?” for “how’s the Korean barbecue?” and linking up with Heung Min Son in his first international managerial role.

Bruce won 28 of his 97 games in charge of the Mags and was dismissed after failing to win any of the opening eight league matches of 2021/22 season.

South Korea are top of their World Cup Qualifying group which also consists of Thailand, China and Singapore. It means Bruce may be set to take charge of a team with a high chance of making the 2026 World Cup.
