Barcelona are gearing up for a busy summer ahead, with the club set to make some key changes to the squad.
Players such as Marcos Alonso are unlikely to continue at Camp Nou, which may prompt the Catalans to look for a replacement in the market.
It was reported earlier that Barça are eyeing a cost-effective option in the market, preferably a player who can sign for free.
Barcelona exploring the idea of signing Mario Hermoso
In his latest Twitch stream, Gerard Romero has revealed that one of the defenders Barcelona are keeping tabs on this season is Mario Hermoso.
The centre-back currently plies his trade with Atletico Madrid. Known for his versatility and technical efficiency, Hermoso has been a prominent member of the Atleti squad for quite a few years now, having featured in 160 matches for the club.

However, Hermoso’s days at Atletico Madrid could be numbered, with his current deal at the Civitas Metropolitano expiring at the end of the season.
An ideal replacement for Alonso?
Signing Mario Hermoso on a free transfer could prove to be a masterstroke, as far as Barcelona are concerned.
The player comes with a wealth of experience at the highest level and has the technical efficiency that would make him an asset in Barça’s system.
Not to mention, the Spaniard can operate in both centre-back and left-back positions, making him a natural replacement for Alonso.
At 28, Hermoso should also be at the peak of his powers and can serve Barcelona in the years to come, making him an excellent option for the club,
However, it remains to be seen whether or not Barcelona encounter any issues when it comes to convincing the Atleti star to sign on a free transfer this summer, especially under the club’s tight wage structure.
