Two former Mags join Shearer, Sir Bobby and Keegan in Newcastle United’s Hall of Fame

Earlier this week, the club announced two new inductees into the NUFC Hall of Fame at the Newcastle United Foundation’s Celebration Dinner.

The 15th year of the annual dinner was celebrated at St James Park on Tuesday. The event acknowledges the hard work and commitment put into the Newcastle United Foundation from people of all ages in the community.

The first player named into the Hall of Fame was Mick “Zico” Martin. Mick Martin is a Irish born midfielder who made 147 league appearances, scoring on six occasions between the years 1974-1984. The name “Zico” was given to Martin by the fans because of pure footballing ability.

The second induction to the Hall of Fame was Nolberto Solano. The Peruvian midfielder joined the club in 1998 and spent six years on Tyneside during his first stint at the club. In this time he played 172 times in the league and put the ball in the net 29 times. Nobby started in a FA Cup final for the magpies in his first season.

Solano would later make a return to Newcastle just a year and a half after leaving. In his second stint, the trumpet man on Tyneside played 58 times in the Premier League scoring eight goals. His second debut was at the first Tyne-Wear Derby against Sunderland in a 3-2 win. When he left for a second time, Solano said “I only have one regret about my time at Newcastle United, and that is I did not help give the fans the trophy they deserve”

Mick Martin and Nobby Solano join people like Alan Shearer, Sir Bobby Robson and Kevin Keegan in the Newcastle United Hall of Fame.
