In a major development, Lluis Canut, journalist and a close aide of former Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman, has claimed that Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong is no longer ruling out the possibility of leaving the Catalan club.
De Jong joined Barcelona in 2019 from AFC Ajax and despite having had his ups and downs has grown into one of the most important players in the team and is one of the four club captains this season.
De Jong frustrated and disappointed with Barcelona
De Jong recently completed 200 appearances with Barcelona and has always maintained that he is happy and settled at the club.
However, as per the update from Canut, who also shares close ties with the midfielder’s entourage, the Netherlands international is frustrated and disappointed with Barça.
It is claimed that when he arrived at the club in 2019, De Jong dreamt of being part of a competitive team and winning the Champions League with the Blaugrana.
But things have not gone according to his expectations at Barcelona and he is understood to be very disappointed with the club.
As such, something has changed with regard to his stance on the future, with De Jong no longer closing the door on an exit.

Barcelona might be open to sale
Despite his importance to the team, the 26-year-old’s future has always been a topic of discussion, more so in the past couple of years due to Barça’s financial situation and his wages, which are bound to increase next summer.
Even though Barcelona director Deco has insisted that De Jong will not be sold, recent reports suggest that the Dutchman is no longer considered an ‘untouchable’ and if any good offers come along, they will be studied.
Manchester United have been long-term admirers of the former Ajax man and remain interested. And with De Jong seemingly disillusioned, it remains to be seen if the doors to an exit are opened in the summer.
